The First in Precision Gear Technology

The world was first introduced to servo planetary gearboxes by alpha in 1983 with the launch of the WP gearbox at Germany's Hannover Fair.

Superior customer service was the theme of the WP. This revolutionary new design was specifically created for the packaging industry, taking into account the requirements and design concepts of our customers to create a product which changed the gearbox world. By taking motion requirements and collaborating on ideas, a product was manufactured to fit market needs.

This product is now the alpha SP+, having undergone significant technological and aesthetic improvements since it was first unveiled. The alpha SP+ is now the most widely used servo planetary gearbox in the world and has inspired the development of new mechanical and mechatronic solutions including the alpha LP+ and alpha TP+ gearboxes, as well as the world's most compact servo actuator - the TPM.

The alpha name itself inspires confidence and innovation to the world of motion. For machine builders, the name alpha inspires peace of mind with a reliable product that will meet the demands of the application.

Since its foundation in 1992, alpha gear drives, Inc. has been the leading supplier to the North American market for mechanical gearboxes and products. In the following decades, new mechatronic products have been designed while continually improving upon standard technology.

In 2008, the Company changed its name to WITTENSTEIN, Inc. while maintaining the alpha brand. The alpha name represents reliable product, superior customer service and supports the largest global base of servo gearboxes.

WITTENSTEIN is leading the design and manufacture of new motion technology . . . inspired by alpha.
