Wittenstein Aerospace & Simulation Delivers First Control Loading System for Diamond DA40/42 Simulator

Wittenstein Aerospace and Simulation, a division of the Wittenstein Group of high technology companies, recently delivered the first production control loading system (CLS) for the Diamond DA40 Diamond Star and DA42 Twin Star Flight Simulation Training Devices in Trebur, Germany. This milestone marks the first Wittenstein CLS for the General Aviation market that has been certified to FTD standard Level 5. The CLS is also compliant to ICAO 9625 Edition 3 up to Class VII.

The system is comprised of Wittenstein's technology which provides force-feel characteristics based on:

  • Integrated, high-performance servo motors and planetary gearboxes
  • State-of-the-art integrated control electronics
  • Aktiv8 reconfigurable software that provides programmable force-feel characteristics
  • Aktiv Toolkit customer programming and test interface

The Diamond Star devices utilize one electro-mechanical control loader for each of the aircraft's main axes (elevator, aileron, rudder).

The main features of the system are a closed control loop interface for highest performance, maintenance-free components and a software configuration customized to fit the requirements stemming from real aircraft.
